After many years of practicing, the company was setup in 2000 with Principal Philip Ballard who has an M.Arch in NZ Fire Protection Design (University of Auckland) 1994.

After a successful establishing of the business in Auckland it was moved to Dunedin in 2001.

The work completed by the business ranges from domestic to multi storied mixed use commercial projects, alterations, conservation and new builds.

Philip is affiliated to FPANZ, ENZ and SFPE professional bodies.

SERVICES

Preconstruction Planning

We can contribute to Design Team meetings or give preliminary assessments of concept designs.

This can save time and cost with early input.

Fire Design Documentation

If you have a commercial building project that requires a building consent,

if you have a residential building project in mind that:

requires a building consent, and
is single level and less than one metre from the boundary, or
is two to three stories and less than five metres from the boundary, or
is more than three stories

you will need a fire report.

We can provide a fire design for your building consent that will comply with current building code requirements.

Building Assessment

If you are considering buying, altering a building or changing its use and want to know what needs to be done to bring it up to compliance we can report on your building project.

Assessment of Accessibility

We can evaluate your documentation to assess your building’s compliance with D1/AS1 Access Routes. All buildings other than housing is required to comply with Access for the Disabled and for Escape from Fire even when there is no change of use for the property.

We can offer to take care of both these matters for you. We will assess your project from both points of view and make preparing the Building Consent documentation easier, faster and more straight-forward.

The drawn documentation that we need for these assessments overlaps and familiarising ourselves with your development once allows us to work on both aspects simultaneously with two outputs to support your Building Consent application.
